Link-up will benefit students at Kirkley Hall

People looking to go into higher education could benefit from increased opportunities under a new partnership.

Northumberland County Council has established links with Northumberland College and the University of Sunderland.

The partnership will share costs and income, programming development opportunities and maximising recruitment and progression to HE.

Northumberland College already has partnerships with the Universities of Northumbria and Sunderland, Derby and Sheffield Hallam, and is developing another with Newcastle. The college teaches foundation degrees accredited by the universities, establishing progression routes for students to convert their HE qualifications to BA and BSc degrees.

The college has 425 HE students at its campuses in Ashington, Kirkley Hall and Berwick this year.

Most are mature students looking to gain HE qualifications to improve their employment prospects.
