Kirkley and Blagdon Park both fall short of targets

In the SG Wealth Management Northumberland League, the game of the day was at Bates Cottages where the home side scraped in by just three runs against Kirkley. Ross Symington stroked 11 fours in his 82 for the Cottages, and he shared a century opening partnership with Mark Allan, who fell just one short of his half-century.

Kirkley opener Ian Smith raised hopes as he blazed 10 fours in a quickfire 42, and with Bazzo also blasting 44, the visitors looked well set.

But then Craig Wood turned the match on its head, claiming five wickets, including the last three, as Kirkley fell just short.

Warkworth were victors as they overcame visitors Blagdon Park by 60 runs after setting a useful looking 216-7 first up.

Runs were generally shared around the home batsmen, Michael Sewell heading the scoring charts with 47.

And it was a case of a great all-round team show as four bowlers got in on the wicket-taking act, with Adam Hall leading the way with 3-49 as the Park closed on 156-8.

Corbridge put a severe dent in Berwick's excellent start to their top-flight career as they put their visitors to the sword.

David Newton (three for 18 in 10 overs) led a quintet of wicket takes as Berwick crumbled for just 81.

Andrew Dover (42no) and Richard Byerley (31) steered Corbridge to a seven-wicket win in just 17.5 overs. Bedlington travelled to Bomarsund and bowled their hosts out for just 111. Nicky Carr was destroyer in chief, his eight overs returning him figures of five for 11.

Sean McCafferty rattled out nine fours and two sixes in an unbeaten 66 that saw the Terriers home by seven wickets.

Clara Vale and champions Alnmouth slugged each other to a standstill to share the spoils in a high-scoring encounter, Omar Ahmed (75) for the Vale and Ian Pearson (3-35 and 37) for Alnmouth being the top performers.

Stocksfield had too much fire for Blue Flames as Nick Armstrong had a day to remember.

After top scoring with 52 as his side fell for 159, he then doused the Flames with a match-winning burst of six for 24 to hand his team a comfortable 66-run win.
