A young woman was killed after her car skidded on ice and collided with a stone bridge near Harlow Hill.

The 24-year-old, from Prudhoe, was driving on the C256 between Harlow Hill and Horsely village, directly opposite Whittle Dene House, at around 11.20pm yesterday, December 14.

Police said she lost control of her Renault Clio and spun on ice, colliding with a stone bridge before going off the road.

The woman was taken to Newcastle General Hospital but died from her injuries. The road was closed for two hours for enquiries to take place.

Anyone who saw the crash or the car off the road before 11.20pm last night is asked to contact Motor Patrols at Hexham on 03456 043 043 ext 61426.
