Murton secured their second victory since returning to the Premier Division by beating visitors Ponteland United 2-0.

Paul Wintrip gave the hosts an interval lead and Karl Garside slotted in second in the 88th minute to leave United still seeking their first win.

Ponteland TV chef sells restaurant

Celebrity chef Terry Miller is selling his upmarket Rockafella restaurant after falling victim to the credit crunch.

The Hell's Kitchen winner, who opened the eatery in Newcastle just under three years ago, closed on Saturday and a van was spotted clearing out goods yesterday.

Last night, the larger-than-life chef's wife, Linda, said she was devastated with their decision, saying if they did not close now they faced going bust.

The family are now ploughing all their efforts into their second business, Millers Catering, based at Newcastle Airport.

Duck race

PONTELAND Rotary Club's charity duck race takes place in Ponteland Park on Sunday, September 7.

Admission is free to spectators. Plastic ducks cost £1 for adults and 50p for children. Money raised will go to various good causes.

Fire service plans for a £10m shake-up of 999 cover in Northumberland are finally to go ahead - three years after being approved amid a storm of controversy.

Work is expected to start early next year on the PFI-funded modernisation, which involves the closure of fire stations in Blyth, Cramlington, Morpeth and Ashington and the loss of about 28 full-time firefighter posts.

YOUTHS have been spraying graffiti at the headquarters of Northumbria Police in Ponteland.

But they won't face arrest, as they were invited there by police officers to showcase their artwork.

Around 80 youngsters took part in the project, creating artwork relating to the police and the force's current knife crime campaign.

A WEDDING celebration turned sour for a North East couple when vandals caused thousands of pounds worth of damage to family cars during a party.

Raman Sehgal, 27, and his bride Selena were celebrating their upcoming wedding in Darras Hall, Ponteland, and invited hundreds of guests to a pre-wedding party at their family homes.

They were married last Sunday at Newcastle Civic Centre.

Wark shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw at Ponteland United with all the goals scored in the final 15 minutes.

The visitors scored first and last through substitute Alistair Stobbs and Lee Telfer. United's scorers were Kevin McGorie in 82 minutes and Joe Dawson three minutes later.
